More than the conventional fundus photo imaging, which does not pick up all potential retinal pathology, this allows for a matrix of images far out into the periphery of the retina. Reasons to opt for imaging of the peripheral retina include, but are not limited to, an increase in predictive risk for disease progression in diabetic retinopathy and peripheral involvement is an important component of posterior uveitis and vasculitis.
