Who can wear contact lenses?
At Visionary Eye Center, we offer all types of contact lens fits. Advancements in technology offer the potential of successful contact lens wear to our patients. A contact lens is a medical device in contact with the tissue of your eye; therefore, it must fit appropriately to maintain the health of your eyes. Before a patient can be fit with contact lenses, a complete medical and refractive eye examination is necessary. This exam is critical to assure the good health of your eyes and rule out the possibility of any underlying condition that may prevent contact lens use. Children as also contact lens candidates, only limited by willingness to participate and responsibility to care from lenses properly.
Are contact lenses safe for my eyes?
Contact lenses are very safe for healthy eye! However, there are certain contraindications to contact lenses. If interested, schedule an exam and Dr. Westcott will go over all options available and fit a lens specific to your circumstances, ocular health, and visual demands.
How long will it take me to get used to wearing contact lenses?
Depending on the type of lens you choose and your overall sensitivity to lenses, it may take a week or two before you completely adjust to your new lenses, though many people are surprised how quickly they adapt. Even those who feel they may be too squeamish to place the lenses in their eyes or remove them find that after a little practice, wearing lenses is an extremely comfortable and convenient option.
Is the contact lens fit included in my comprehensive exam? Fees associated?
The contact lens fitting is not part of a comprehensive eye exam, but is an additional service which includes the contact lens fit, insertion & removal training for new wearers, follow up visits for 90 days, and trial contact lenses (for soft lens wearers). More specialized contact lens fits are also offered: rigid gas permeable, scleral, hybrid, piggyback, Synergeyes, Intelliwave, and Specialeyes. Fees are determined based on the type of lenses prescribed, the difficulty of the fit, as well as insurance coverage.
